Many users continue to use the old versions of Windows (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8…), even though the upgrade to Windows 10 is free. Some computer users do not do this because they are comfortable with their current operating system and fear that something will break. Others because they don't quite trust the new Microsoft OS due to its treatment of privacy. And others probably due to lack of time or do not consider it necessary.
We always say that you have to work with an optimal
operating system in order to enjoy good performance. It is not about changing
the OS because Microsoft is promoting the change, but you have to assess the
advantages and disadvantages of carrying out an update. In today's post we
wanted to collect some evaluations and analysis in computer magazines so that
you can be well informed before making a decision.
Main disadvantages of Windows 10
At Computer today they offer us a very complete analysis of
the Microsoft operating system, where some drawbacks are highlighted, but also
their solutions. Among the main disadvantages that they point out, we must
mention the following:
Privacy and Big Data
Windows collects data about your internet usage and your
location. They are mostly data that is collected anonymously (they are not
associated with your IP or name), but some do reveal data about the user who
generates them. This data is not sold to third parties, nor does it imply an
intrusion into the user's privacy, but not everyone likes it.
Keep in mind, however, that this nose is only enabled by
default in Windows 10 Home, not in the business version. In addition, it can be
disabled from the settings.
Your computer is working for Windows
As you are reading. The operating system uses a part of the
computer's resources to its advantage. As you have seen, you can download
Windows 10 from your Windows 7 or Windows 8 directly, and once you have
installed the new OS, you also continue downloading the updates, but not all of
them are downloaded from Microsoft's servers, but from the computers of other
users over a P2P network.
You are sharing resources from your computer so that other
users can download their Windows 10 updates. You can also disable this function
from the settings, but it is enabled by default.
Some free programs are now premium
Another disadvantage of Windows 10 is that some software
that you could use for free before, are now paid. Microsoft's operating system,
for example, has the ability to uninstall pirated programs that you are using.
It is important that if you work with Microsoft you always use legal software
under license, or in any case, free programs such as the OpenOffice package .
There are some programs that have been moved to the premium
version, such as the DVD player or Windows Solitaire, so say goodbye to hours
of entertainment at work, unless you have a premium subscription.
You cannot pin shows, nor can you create favorites lists.
One of the advantages that Windows 10 did bring, in response
to complaints from Windows 8 users, is the return to the traditional start bar.
We have the same options as in Windows 7, such as the list of programs, the on
/ off button, the most used applications and the direct access to Settings .
However, it is not possible to pin shows, or create favorites lists.
In this sense, Windows 10 is not a return to the aesthetics
and structure of Windows 7, but rather a hybrid between Windows 8 and Windows
7.
Should my business upgrade to Windows 10?
As you know, the possibility of switching to Windows 10 for
free from your current operating system is only valid until July 29, 2016. If
you do not update before that date and want to switch to the new OS, you will
have to pay the cost of the program.
Windows 10 improves in many ways the previous versions of
Microsoft's OS , both in performance and in ease of installation and stability.
There are non any major bugs and it is a reliable operating system. Windows 10
also occupies less than any other operating system, which allows it to also be
of great value to install on all kinds of devices, even if they have a
low-resource hard drive.
Updating to a new and more modern version of Windows will
give you better performance and security, to the extent that this operating
system is an improvement compared to the ones you are currently using,
especially if you continue using XP, which no longer updates. (at least,
officially).
